Gimme My Decorating Magazines Back!

The NY Times today has an article on The Selby.  You probably heard of the site.  It's about real people in their homes--some famous, some not.  The article also went on to discuss how people can relate more to "real places" than professionally decked up places frequently featured in decor magazines, which contributes to their ever growing popularity.

We love the Selby too but in a way, it's like watching Rachel Ray cooks vs a professional chef.  There is no competition!    Magazines offer beautifully shot, gorgeous decor that we can fantasize about. We don't want to look at houses that look just like ours, for god's sake.  For example, look at the image below from Homebodies, one of the blogs mentioned:

We want our decorating magazines back!  We miss them, terribly.

Beautiful White Lotus

The ancient Egyptians cultivated the white lotus in ponds and marshes. This flower often appears in ancient Egyptian decorations

. They believed that the lotus flower gave them strength and power; remains of the flower have been found in the burial tomb of Ramesses II. The number 1,000 in ancient Egyptian numerals is represented by the symbol of the white lotus. The ancient Egyptians also extracted perfume from this flower. They also used the white lotus in funerary garlands, temple offerings and female adornment. The white lotus might have been one of the plants eaten by the Lotophagi of Homer's Odyssey.

Real Cool Barstool

We totally dig this barstool from Arteriors. It has an unique shape to it, and we love the organic look/feel.

The barstool sells at $450/each  with free shipping.

You can find the specifications in our barstool section.

Modern Silk Flower Arrangements

Just want to share with you some beautiful modern floral arrangements we just got in...

These can be found in our silk flowers section. If you see them in person you wouldn't believe how real they look.

Modern and Glamorous-Chandelier from Barbara Cosgrove

We are loving this new chandelier from Barbara Cosgrove.  It's so chic, don't you think?

The chandelier is priced at $925 including shipping.
The shades can also be replaced with parchment shades. The best thing is, it can be painted with any Benjamin Moore paint color. How clever!
You can find this chandelier in our Barbara Cosgrove Lamps section.

Concept Green House design

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

The house is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional courtyard house, laid out around a central green courtyard with a double height stair and entry area forming the focal point of the project. The L-shaped plan creates open spaces which encourage natural ventilation and offer resident’s views over the courtyard to the verandah, roof gardens and beyond. Lushly planted roof gardens surround the house and add to the effect that nature is evident in every part of the house. The large roof above the courtyard creates an indoor and outdoor space leading to the gardens and swimming pool which wraps around two sides of the house.

A Tip - use color to detail that easily can be replaced

Since I had a real blue era in the 90s that made everything from plates to tiles in the bathroom, and even the windows on our house was blue, I've still a bit difficult for blue. Sorry for the fact it is really nice and fit well both with black, white, gray and wood. It is cheerful and colorful, but that was too much. Moderately simply. Then you do not overdo it like I did and above all ... and this is a tip - use color to detail that easily can be replaced. The images from VT Wonen.

Dream concept house

dream house

Some time ago we’ve shown you unique collection of buildings designed in the form of the moon. And the following house will continue this theme. The Mahina house (the Maori name for Moon) also has been designed by Weber Consulting in the shape of the crescent. It’s going to be built on Kawau Island, about 60km north of Auckland, New Zealand. With floor to ceiling windows and white modern interior with house looks really incredible. This luxury house is 827 square feet and have a plant room, deck, swimming pool and “thermal mass” to regulate internal temperatures. Official website says “A predominantly modern residence with a ‘Bondesque’ suggestion of times past; the glamorous age of martinis and tuxedos.” And it’s hard to object. This is really dream house. Despite of usual order we decided to show you video at the begining. It’s really stunning.

Bloomingville Autumn/Winter 2010

Bilder VT Wonen.

DIY Club July 2010 Project: Workout Room Inspirational Wall Quote

"Don't dream your life. Live your dreams."

Don't keep your inspiration in a book. Put it on a wall! With this DIY Club Inc sponsor...the Design Divas Vinyl Lettering and Wall Art. Seriously, I think I discovered my favorite new DIY project. It is so darn easy to do and the instant gratification is fabulous! Check it out...

I wanted to do something in my workout room.

I have a bunch of affirmations posted next to my treadmill. As I am running, they provide me with positive thoughts about what I want to create in my life. I thought this would be the perfect spot to add a larger motivational quote.

I ordered my vinyl lettering from the Design Divas Gallery etsy store. This quote is item #1611. When I received it in the mail, it came with this handy instruction sheet.

We started by positioning the quote with tape and a level. We followed the instructions to adhere the quote to the mirror. That's all there was to it!

So easy peasy, right? I love an inexpensive project that comes together in little time but has a big impact in a space. I can see how these wall quotes can be an addiction.

I'd like to add some more inspiration to the remaining mirrors in the room. I'm check out the other quotes that the Design Divas offer or maybe I'll create a custom one! I also found out that I can order vinyl sheets from the Design Divas and make my own design using a Cricut. The wheels are spinning!

Thank you, Design Divas, for providing me with such a fabulous product!

Sommarfint i Hornbaek

Underbar sekelskiftesidyll i danska Hornbaek.
