Fireplace Makeover: Phase 3 (Construction)

Phase I was demolition. Phase II was installation. After demolition and installation, came...CONSTRUCTION! This included studding out the wall around the fireplace insert, wiring for electricity and technology, and putting up the actual wall. Oh, boy! With the ceiling angle and the crazy corners, it was not a simple task. We spent several months before starting this phase, because we weren't quite sure what approach to take. Here is what we went with...

After the studs were up and the wiring in, there was a lot of discussion to determine the material for the wall. Drywall? Beadboard? Tongue & groove? We opted for the same 8" horizontal tongue and groove pine board treatment that we used on the master bedroom closets...

Here it is with the tongue and groove installed and the outlets and wiring in place...

You'll notice that the tongue and groove is pine, while the cabinetry is oak. Not a problem! That all gets remedied in the next phase...paint!

Let's recap, shall we?...

            Before                                     Phase I: Demolition

Phase II: Installation                                                  Phase III: Construction

Stay tuned for...
Phase IV: Paint

NOTE TO READER: We're getting there! Thanks for staying with me. It took us 8 months to complete it, so it will take a few days to show the entire transformation. It was definitely a process!!
